Smash Bros. Ultimate Update 3.0 Bringing Joker, Stage Builder, and More on April 17, 2019

As we predicted last night on our podcast, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is about to get its 3.0 update, which will bring a new fighter, music, stage, modes, and more.

We already knew from the 2018 Game Awards that Joker from Persona 5 would be the first paid DLC fighter, but until today, we weren’t exactly sure when he would be available. Now we know that date is tomorrow, April 17, 2019. Along with Joker, we are also getting the Mementos stage and 11 music tracks from the Persona series. You will also get a Joker Route in Classic Mode and open up a special version of the Spirit Board. Check out the video at the end of this post for more details on Joker’s moves.

You can purchase Joker, the new stage, and the music for $5.99 US, or you can purchase the Fighter Pass for $24.99 US and get Joker and the other four upcoming challengers once they are released.

In addition to the paid fighter content, you can also pay for Persona costumes for your Mii Fighters. But that’s not all, this update is also bringing Mii costumes from Sonic the Hedgehog, giving you the ability to dress up as Tails and Knuckles. The costumes are available for 75 cents each.

The update will not only contain Persona content but much more. In fact, that leaked Stage Builder mode is also coming, which will allow players to create their own fighting arenas. According to the press release, “players can add moving platforms, spinning traps, and other unique features to their customized stages.” You can even utilize the touch screen to draw and decorate your creations. In many ways, it resembles Stage Builders from past games, but it looks to have many new features, including front and back layers.

There will also be a new Video Editor mode to create your own Smash Bros. videos. Bring in your saved video content, splice it together, add some subtitles and sound effects, and then share it with the world. How can you share it? Well, we’re glad you asked!

One more new feature in this update is Smash World, an online mode for players to share their stage, video creations, and Mii Fighters. Think you have the best custom stage, an amazing video, or Mii? Share it to Smash World for others to enjoy. You can vote on the content you like, which helps everyone find the best creators. All of your in-game notifications will also be available there, and you can create your own Spirit team. Smash World will be available within the Nintendo Switch Online smartphone app, which allows you to interact with content in the game even when you are not playing.
