While it was rumored and even predicted on our last podcast, Nintendo fans still woke up surprised this morning to see a Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct this morning sitting on their YouTube subscriptions page along with several announcements that were not included in the original rumors.
Three new spirits from Paper Mario: The Origami King will appear in the constantly evolving Super Smash Bros. Ultimate spirit board mode, starting on August 27 at 11pm PT through September 1, 2020.
The NPD Group has released the results for consumer spending for the U.S. in July 2020. Without surprise, Nintendo Switch was the best-selling hardware platform of the month and year-to-date. But that’s not all. Check out the rest of the results right here!
In a recent investor meeting, Nintendo Co., Ltd. updated their software sales for the first quarter of the fiscal year ending in 2021 (April-June). Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was revealed to have sold another 1.19 million units. Its lifetime sales numbers are currently at 19.99 million. Because of these sales, the long-running and beloved Super Smash Bros. series has now crossed 60 million sales worldwide!
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate just got its 8.1 update, which no one was expecting. While it does not include some missing elements players have been asking for, it does include a few updates that many should enjoy.
Mr. Sakurai appeared from his own home this morning to present the latest new fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. We knew the character wold be from ARMS, but until today, we didn’t know who it would be. Sakurai considered most of the characters, but finally decided on Min Min.
Early this morning, January 16, Masahiro Sakurai, the director of the Smash Bros. series, shared another update on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for Nintendo Switch. We learned what the last DLC character would be in the Fighter Pack 1, he showed us the next round of Mii costumes, we saw the next amiibo, and we found out there will be six characters coming in Fighter Pack 2.
Earlier today, via Masahiro Sakurai’s and NintendoVS Twitter, it was announced that there will be a 35 minute video livestream featuring an in-depth look at an upcoming DLC fighter. Nintendo then followed up with an official press release. This will be the final DLC character to be released under the first Smash Fighters Pass.

Labo VR functionality is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate via a free 3.1 update. The update also includes additional amiibo support, including sending them on journeys and using them in Battle Arenas.
