Right as we start a new year, Nintendo decides to pull all DSiWare games that released before mid-May 2011 from sale.
The 3DS eshop has always incorporated the majority of the content from the now defunct DSi Shop since the 2011 launch. DSiWare along with WiiWare was Nintendo’s attempt at offering downloadable games on their platform from many independent studios. The DSiWare shop cut off purchases in 2017, but the 3DS family was at least a safe haven for DSiWare.
It seems that’s not the case anymore.
For some odd reason, all DSiWare games that released before mid-May 2011 are unavailable for purchase. The game listing and info is still present, but the purchase button has “This software is currently unavailable” overlaid on it. Various DSiWare that released past 2011 seems to be available as normal.
Here are some of the games affected:
- Shantae: Risky’s Revenge
- Asphalt 4
- X-Scape
- Aura Climber
- Zenonia
- Spotto!
- Mighty Flip Champs
- Escapee GO!
- Dr. Mario Express
- Mr. Driller
- Soul of Darkness
- Legends of Exidia
- Spin Six
- The Oregon Trail
- Glow Artisan
- Alphabounce
Hopefully, this is a mistake that will be corrected. You should be able to re-download these games, though, if you have already bought them.
Dave’s first Nintendo platform was the GameCube when he was age 7; however, he was introduced to Nintendo through Duck Hunt on NES.
