As we end off the first half of 2022, Switch continues to lead in unit sales.
In both June and the first half of the year, it was revealed that Switch dominated in unit sales; meanwhile, PS5 dominated in dollar sales. Matt Piscatella of NPD goes on to report that dollar sales for June fell by 8% when compared to a year ago, to $371 million. Overall spending during the first half of 2022 fell 9%, to $2.1 billion.
For software, Elden Ring continues to hold the #1 spot of the Top 20. Despite this, Mario Strikers: Battle League, one of two new Nintendo games for June debuted at the #3 spot. The rest of the Top 20 is as follows for Nintendo-published software: Mario Kart 8 DX is at #6, Nintendo Switch Sports at #7, Kirby and the Forgotten Land at #8, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at #15, Fire Emblem: Three Hopes debuted at #16, and Pokémon Legends: Arceus at #18. Third-party Switch software includes LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga at #2, MLB The Show 22 at #4, Overwatch at #5, Minecraft at #10, Monster Hunter Rise at #13, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles at #14, and Sonic Origins at #17.
