Looks like Nintendo is becoming serious about creating animation based on their properties.
Nintendo Co., Ltd. has announced that they have entered an agreement to “acquire 100% of the outstanding shares (excluding treasury shares) of Dynamo Pictures, Inc. and to make it a wholly owned subsidiary”. If everything goes well, the deal is expected to close on October 3, 2022.
Dynamo Pictures, Inc. is a “visual content” or animation company founded in 2004. Besides anime, they have done cutscene work for games like Death Stranding and Persona 5. Their partnership with Nintendo began when they assisted with Metroid: Other M and the Pikmin short movies.
Once the acquisition is complete, their name will be changed to “Nintendo Pictures Co., Ltd.”. Nintendo says that they are buying the company to “focus on development of visual content utilizing Nintendo IP”.
