Nintendo Switch continues to take #1 in hardware; however, this time it was able to take #1 in other areas as well.
Nintendo Switch was revealed to be the top-selling hardware in both unit and dollar sales while PS5 was top-selling in revenue. Overall hardware spending increased 98% when compared to July 2020, to $323 million. Matt Piscatella of NPD goes on to say that Nintendo also took #1 in dollar sales for accessories with the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Edition Joy-Con. Overall accessory spending increased 11% when compared to a year ago, reaching $189 million.
For software, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD was #1 in the Top 20 for July, beating out Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War. For Nintendo-published software, the rest of the Top 20 is as follows: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at #4, Mario Golf: Super Rush at #6, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at #10, Animal Crossing: New Horizons at #12, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury at #14, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at #17, and Pokémon Sword & Shield at #18.
Third-party Switch software includes Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin at #3, Minecraft at #5, Mortal Kombat XI at #15, and NEO: The World Ends With You at #16.
