During the month of E3, Nintendo Switch led in unit sales once again.
For hardware, the NPD group reports that Switch was the best-selling hardware platform in unit sales while the Xbox Series was the best-selling in dollar sales. Overall, videogame hardware sales increased 112%, compared to last June. Interestingly, Matt Piscatella of NPD notes that “Switch was the best-selling hardware platform during 2021’s first half in both dollar and unit sales”.
For software, the top-selling game of the month was Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. In terms of Nintendo-published software, Mario Golf: Super Rush was the top-selling at #3. The rest of Top 20 for Nintendo is as follows: Mario Kart 8 DX at #7, Animal Crossing: New Horizons at #11, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at #13, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury at #15, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at #18, and Pokémon Sword & Shield at #19.
Third-party Switch software includes Minecraft at #8, Mortal Kombat XI at #10, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 at #17.
