Despite a supply shortage, Nintendo’s hybrid platform ended off the first quarter very strong.
The NPD reports that the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling hardware platform of both March 2022 and overall first quarter in unit sales. Interestingly, Xbox Series X/S led dollar sales in both time periods. Matt Piscatella of NPD goes on to reveal that hardware dollar sales dropped 24% when compared to a year ago, to $515 million.
For software, Elden Ring still holds the #1 spot for the Top 20 of March 2022; however, Kirby & the Forgotten Land debuted at the #3 spot. The rest of the Top 20 for Nintendo-published software is as follows: Pokémon Legends: Arceus is at #6, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at #8, Triangle Strategy at #16, Mario Party Superstars at #17, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at #18, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons at #19. Third-party Switch software includes MLB: The Show 22 at #4, FIFA 22 at #13, and Minecraft at #14.
