Nintendo Power Magazine started in 1988. I remember the excitement I got when I saw the newest issue in the news stand or getting it in the mail, when I could convince my parents to let me subscribe. It was always great to flip through the reviews, look through tips and tricks, and learn a few things about the people behind the games.
While it was originally run directly by Nintendo of America, the magazine was sold to Future Publishing in 2007. They kept it going for several years, but unfortunately, Nintendo Power was shut down at the end of 2012. I still have many copies, but there are several I never got the chance to read. Until recently, I thought I would never get that chance.
Thankfully, the first 13 years of issues are now available on the Internet Archives. So you can now peruse stories about Super Mario Bros. 3, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Street Fighter II, Donkey Kong Country, Goldeneye 007, and more. Read the very first issue featuring Super Mario Bros. 2, or look through the first details of the Ultra 64 console. You can even see the origins of Nester. Alas, you won’t get a pull-out poster to put on your wall this time around.
