Nintendo has been pretty mum about Virtual Console as of late. With successes like the SNES and NES Classic, it’s no wonder why. Kotaku contacted Nintendo yesterday night and got a startling and very optimistic response from a Nintendo spokesperson. .
“There are currently no plans to bring classic games together under the Virtual Console banner as has been done on other Nintendo systems,”
While we wont know why, I do have some speculation as to why they are not bringing classic games back under the Virtual Console banner. Very likely they want to make it a selling point of their recently announced online services. On top of that, they likely want to distance themselves from the Wii and Wii U and bring in a more modern crowd with a new name.
It is unfortunate but it is the end of the Wii era of consoles. We still have Miis but who knows when those will disappear. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
