Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Launches on Switch Dec 7, 2018

A large portion of today’s E3 Nintendo Direct focused on the upcoming game, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.  Tons of details were revealed, which included the name and release date.

  • The character roster has expanded past the Wii U/3DS version by containing every single character that has appeared as a fighter in the previous entries.
    • Characters such as Pichu, Ice Climbers, Wolf, and even Snake return as playable fighters.
    • Even Pokemon Trainer returned with the three rotating Pokemon.  No more penalty for just using your favorite for the entire fight!
    • Link now has 3 character slots featuring the returning Toon Link and Young Link.
  • They revealed one new fighter, along with a few echo characters.
    •  Ridley is finally a playable character.  It has some unique moves by dragging characters along the floor doing massive damage.  It can also attack with its tail and if it hits a sweet spot, it will paralyze the opponent for a free follow-up attack.
    • The first Echo character is Daisy, who becomes an alternate of Peach.  She likely shares a similar move set, just they will have altered strengths and weaknesses much like the difference between Marth and Lucina.
    • Lucina and Dark Pit are treated as echo characters.
  • The starting roster will be the twelve original fighters from the N64 version – with tons of fun ways to unlock all the different fighters
  • Eight player battles return
  • Link was updated to be more styled around his Breath of the Wild form, even having remote bombs for use during battles
  • Zelda was updated to be more styled after her A Link Between Worlds form.
  • Mario now has Cappy as an available move
  • Characters will have alternate voice options, such as Ike from both of his games
  • Marth will now be voiced in English
  • New item includes a fake Smash ball – will instantly kill you if you break it
  • In 1-on-1 battles, characters will take more damage.  Ryu will always face his opponent.
  • Characters like Captain Falcon can trigger special slo-mo effects in 1-on-1 battles with certain moves
  • Visual and other button press improvements made for some characters
    • Shulk is now easier to select which monado skill you want
    • Can see pocketed items for Villager
    • Can see remaining strength on Robin’s Levin Sword and Tome
  • Bomberman has been added as an assist trophy.
  • Massive list of stages includes many returning ones.
    • Princess Peach’s Castle, Spirit Train, Green Hill Zone, New Pork City
    • Moray Towers (New stage from Splatoon)
    • Great Plateau Tower (New stage from Breath of the Wild)
    • All stages will have Omega forms, and in addition a Battlefield version.
  • New techniques
    • Ladder attacks
    • Directional Air dodge
    • Excessive dodging will make the player more vulnerable
    • Short hop attacks (A+Jump)
    • A+B Smash attack returns from the previous game
    • Perfect Shield
  • The game is compatiable with the GameCube adapter and controllers
  • All amiibo are supported, along with alternate versions made for other games
