This video from GameXplain shows that a new item will be coming to the games: the Ice Stone! Items like the Fire Stone, Water Stone, Thunder Stone, and Shiny Stone can be used to evolve different Pokémon, and this will almost certainly serve the same purpose. GameXplain speculates that it will be able to evolve the Alolan version of Vulpix into Alolan Ninetales (Ice and Ice/Fairy types, as opposed to their Fire-type counterparts found elsewhere in the world). The item could also be used to evolve Eevee into Glaceon, and perhaps to evolve some other currently unannounced Pokémon.
Finally, Serebii tells us that we will be getting more information on the upcoming games next Friday, on October 14th!
