It looks like fans of the long-awaited third installment to the No More Heroes series will have to wait a bit longer.
No More Heroes 3 was revealed at E3 2019 for a 2020 release. Sadly, it will not make this original date. The news was confirmed by series director, Goichi “Suda51” Suda via the Grasshopper Manufacture Twitter account.
The studio is now aiming for a 2021 release date. Suda51 says, “All staff members at Grasshopper have been working as hard as possible on developing the game in hopes of releasing it in 2020, but the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have unfortunately proven to be a real body blow to our schedule, causing unforeseen delays in development. Now that we have managed to get back on our feet with development, we have decided to focus on prioritizing quality, and to therefore push back the final release date.”
Suda51 also offers “sincerest apologies” to those who have been waiting for more news since the NMH3 story trailer that appeared at The Game Awards 2019. This particular trailer ended with NMH main protagonist, Travis Touchdown, saying “2020 release? Good Luck!” which is interesting in hindsight.
It is not all doom and gloom as Suda51 also provided an update on a new addition to the development team being American comic book artist, Darick Robertson, who will provide illustrations for the game.
No More Heroes 3 is now set for 2021 and is still exclusive to Nintendo Switch.
Dave’s first Nintendo platform was the GameCube when he was age 7; however, he was introduced to Nintendo through Duck Hunt on NES.
