Previously announced for Switch in the recent Nintendo Direct, it looks like the popular battle royale will need more time in the oven.
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout was originally slated for a Summer 2021 release on Switch, but developer Mediatonic will need more time for implementing cross-play.
Mediatonic put out a statement on the official Fall Guys blog:
“With so many new opportunities now in our hands, we’ve realised that our previously announced Summer 2021 Switch and Xbox release schedule is unfortunately just too soon for us to include all of the tasty new features we’re working on.
While we want to launch on these platforms as quickly as possible, we believe the Switch and Xbox releases are really going to be worth waiting for and we’re super grateful for your patience. This delay gives our team some time to add features like crossplay, so when we add new platforms, players will be able to stumble in harmony with their pals, regardless of their platform of choice.”
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout originally released on PS4 and PC in August 2020. It’s worth noting that the developer was acquired by Epic Games in March. This allows them to fine-tune the game for Switch and Xbox without any need to rush development.
As of writing, no info on the new release date was provided.
Dave’s first Nintendo platform was the GameCube when he was age 7; however, he was introduced to Nintendo through Duck Hunt on NES.
