Have you ever wondered what it would be like to fight in the Roman army? To witness battles from long ago and watch the rise of the Roman empire?
Shieldwall is a 3D indie game based on historic Roman battles. In the game, your objective is to capture and secure enemy flags. You will raise a Roman army of different units to help fight and defend. These units will consist of spearmen, defenders, legionaries, and militia.
Throughout the game, you will collect money which will help you upgrade your army, respawn time, money income, and flag capture speed. You will also acquire signs and standard points which upgrade things like money and health. Every army will gain regular points which show who has the upper hand in the battle.
You will have a map to guide you to enemy flags and show you what enemy owns what flag. The gameplay is very basic; capture enemy flags, defend your flags, and defeat the other armies. These armies will sometimes have back-ups as well to make the game more challenging.
At the beginning of every level, you will start back at square one and will have to upgrade to build a better army. Over and over again you will fight to gain victories for the Roman army. You may choose from two difficulties: easy and normal. Easy will only give you a bronze badge if you beat it but normal gives you silver or gold.
The graphics in this game are very basic but change at every level to match the battle you’re playing. I came across a couple of glitches such as spears freezing and enemies freezing.
Other than that, the gameplay is quite smooth and not bad for a game like itself. You will come across multiple armies in levels, some having spears, others swords, and sometimes a mix of things. These armies vary in color and will have different outfits and shields. The graphics may be basic but it still gives the game a nice touch and feeling of the actual battles.
The game also adds background information to the battles which enhances the game and helps you learn about the battles.
Overall, Sheildwall is a neat little 3D indie game. I enjoyed it, and I think it is great for someone who is into Roman history and resource management. In the end, this game is basic but fun.
