The 1985 sequel to the 1984 original arcade Punch-Out!! gamewill be releasing next week on the Nintendo Switch eshop as part of Hamster’s Arcade Archives series. This news comes from the latest issue of Famitsu.
Unlike later Punch-Out!! games, Punch-Out!! in the arcade plays in a vertical 2-screen format. Most significantly, the player’s boxer is viewed from behind with his torso rendered with wire-frame graphics which allows the player’s opponent to be easily seen. The announcer loudly says your every move as a way to attract customers in the arcade to the machine.
This particular release will bring a fourth Punch-Out!! game to the Switch ecosystem as the NES and SNES installments of the series are already available via Nintendo Switch Online.
With the help of the Hamster Corporation, Nintendo has been able to bring 18 of their back-catalog arcade titles to modern times, including Donkey Kong, Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr., and VS. Ice Climbers. If previous Arcade Archives releases are to go by, Arcade Archives: Super Punch-Out!! should arrive Friday, August 14, priced at $7.99.
Dave’s first Nintendo platform was the GameCube when he was age 7; however, he was introduced to Nintendo through Duck Hunt on NES.
