The Nintendo Switch really likes that sleep mode. Although the sleep mode is a great option, if you were wanting to change out your Micro SD card or were going to take a long break from playing your Switch, you would want to power down the Switch completely. Personally, though, I can’t imagine you wanting to stop playing Zelda for a long period of time, but that is beside the point. We are here to help you completely power off your Switch.
Most people will just push on the button next to the volume control, but it will only send the Switch into sleep mode. If you click on the power button icon at the far right of the user interface, it will just show a menu that lets you send the Switch into sleep mode. So in order to fully shut down your Nintendo Switch, this is what you must do:
Step 1: Make sure all of your games are saved and closed.
Step 2: Hold down the power button next to the volume control, for at least five seconds.
Step 3: Select “Power Options” and “Turn Off.”
While it seems quite easy, it’s not entirely obvious. Just don’t leave it off for too long; that machine wants to be played! So keep playing and enjoying that Nintendo Switch!
