The Nintendo Switch was unsurprisingly the best-selling hardware for the month while everyone’s favorite plumber took the top spot for software.
For hardware, monthly sales of video game hardware increased 121% when compared to February 2020, to $406M, according to Matt Piscatella of NPD. Switch was the best-selling hardware platform in both units and dollars in February, the highest for any hardware platform in a February month since the Nintendo Wii in Feburary 2009. He goes on to say that total lifetime dollar sales of Switch hardware now exceed the Nintendo DS, making Switch Nintendo’s 2nd best-selling platform in U.S. tracked history, behind the Wii.
For software, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury was at #1 for the Top 20 of the February 2021. In terms of Nintendo-published, the other games were Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at 8th, Animal Crossing: New Horizons at 9th, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (13th), Super Mario 3D All-Stars (15th), Ring Fit Adventure (16th), and Breath of the Wild (19th). Keep in that mind, the aforementioned are only physical sales as Nintendo doesn’t provide digital sales to NPD.
In terms of the third party games available on Switch, Persona 5 Strikers took the top spot of #3. Other 3rd party Switch games were Little Nightmares II at #6, FIFA 21 (11th), NBA 2K21 (12th), Mortal Kombat 11 (14th), Just Dance 2021 (17th), Minecraft (18th), and Immortals: Fenyx Rising (20th).
