As we stated on our recent podcast Nintendo had quite the Black Friday this year. According to a recent press release, “Over Thanksgiving week (Nov. 24 to Nov. 30), the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite systems sold a combined total of more than 830,000 units in the U.S., according to internal data.”
These sales numbers bring the total amount of Nintendo Switch units sold in North America to 17.5 million. For reference, this puts the Switch just behind the “New PlayStation 2,” which sold 17.6 million in North America, and the Nintendo64, which sold 20.6 million.
On top of hardware sales, Nintendo also broke some software sales records. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe soared to 8.5 million sold, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has topped 8 million, Super Mario Odyssey now sits at 6.5 million, and New Super Mario Bros. U has sold 1.5 million copies.
Nintendo also stated that this was their best Cyber Monday for Nintendo Switch. “Holiday shoppers see the value of Nintendo Switch, which offers a vast library of games for every type of player,” said Nick Chavez, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Whether shopping for the ideal gift or picking one up for yourself, the Nintendo Switch family of systems provides options that fit every play style.”
There are actually still some games on sale for the holidays, even though Black Friday and Cyber Monday are now behind us for 2019. Just check out https://happyholidays.nintendo.com to see what is on sale until 11:59pm Pacific Time on December 4, 2019.
