The Electronic Entertainment Expo is back for 2021 in a digital-only experience and is bringing lots of friends, including everyone’s favorite plumber.
After a 2020 absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the ESA is bringing E3 back in a fully digital expo. The event takes place between June 12 and June 15. The following companies will attend: Nintendo, Xbox, Capcom, Konami, Ubisoft, Take-Two, Warner Bros and Koch Media. Interestingly, Sony, EA, Activision Blizzard, Sega, Bandai Namco and Square Enix are not attending.
In an interview with GamesIndustry.Biz, ESA CEO Stanley Pierre-Louis stated, “We are evolving this year’s E3 into a more inclusive event, but will still look to excite the fans with major reveals and insider opportunities that make this event the indispensable center stage for video games.” ESA also reiterated that the event will be free to all. The press release says that developers will be showcasing their latest news and games directly to fans around the world. Quite possibly, this means digital presentations for those attending.
Speaking of “directly,” it seems Nintendo will finally have an E3 Nintendo Direct after a one year absence.
