What do you get when you take the building and line clearing mechanics of Tetris and combine them with the mathematical placement of Sudoku? What you get is an oddly addictive game called TENS!
In Kwalee games’ TENS!, your goal is to place dice on the board, make tens in any row or column and clear the board to win! It is a simple concept, but as you progress through the story mode, things aren’t quite as easy as it seems. The farther in you go, the difficulty gradually increases with the use of special blocks. Some move your dice to a different area, re-roll, or lock them into place. As these elements are thrown in, the thought process between every move gets deeper and deeper. I found it both relaxing and stressful at times.
As you progress through the story, you encounter other characters who challenge you to battle. When this happens, it feels like the game changes drastically. No longer are you going at your own pace; instead, this is a quick battle to the end against a plethora of characters. Rather than collecting points to complete the level, you are pitted against a computer in a Tetris-esque feeling of survival. As you complete tens, you send over blocks to your opponent preventing them from using certain spaces on their playing field. In these battles, the speed picks up rapidly as your scrambling to get rid of your opponents blocks while sending them right back to them. If this mode is more of your style, there is a multiplayer mode.
All in all, it is a pretty fun and addicting puzzle game. While I was playing, I didn’t even notice two hours passed.
