Nintendo President Warns of Potential Switch Shortage

In an interview with Nikkei, Shuntaro Furukawa, the president of Nintendo, assured the public that the company has enough manufacturing for more product, but warns that the Switch could still experience shortages this year.

This report arrives via VGC who translated the interview. Furukawa stated, “We have been able to secure the necessary materials for the immediate production of semiconductors for switches; however, in Japan and other countries, demand has been very strong since the beginning of the year, and there is a possibility of shortages at some retailers in the future.” He goes on to say that it will be difficult to say how they will deal with shortages.

The shortage of semiconductors is just one of the many effects the Covid-19 pandemic has created. Supply lines were halted for most of 2020. Nintendo hardware is not the only one affected as the other two gaming hardware manufacturers, Sony and Microsoft, have also faced shortages of their new consoles which launched late last year.

Now might be a good time to buy a Switch if you haven’t already.
