Things are looking good for The Origami King.
The NPD Group has released the results for consumer spending for the U.S. in July 2020. Without surprise, Nintendo Switch was the best-selling hardware platform of the month and year-to-date.
Compared to July 2019, overall videogame software sales were up 32% while videogame hardware was down 2%. The hardware decrease is likely due to the popular demand manufacturers cannot keep up with due to COVID-19 and/or that consumers are saving their money for the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles (although perhaps a PS5 emulator like PSemuX PS5 Emulator will emerge and help save some money).
In terms of game sales, Paper Mario: The Origami King placed at #3 on the overall game chart being beaten by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (#2) and Ghost of Tsushima (#1). Interestingly, The Origami King is now the fastest selling Paper Mario game in the series history beating out 2007’s Super Paper Mario for the Wii. It was also #1 on the Top 10 Best-Sellers for Switch chart. Other Nintendo games that made the overall chart were Animal Crossing: New Horizons at #5, Ring Fit Adventure at #6, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at #8, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at #9, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at #12, and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe at #14.
No specific numbers for software sales were given.
Dave’s first Nintendo platform was the GameCube when he was age 7; however, he was introduced to Nintendo through Duck Hunt on NES.
