With the launch date of Splatoon 3 right around the corner, Nintendo hosted their Splatoon 2 North American Open on March 11-12, 2022, to see which team was the current best in Turf War. The top 16 teams entered the bracket on March 11, but only the top four remained for the finals on March 12: Super P, Ascended Moon, Starburst, and Papaya.
In the best-of-five semi finals round, Super P beat Ascended Moon three games to one. while Starburst took down Papaya three games to two. Then in the best-of-seven finals match, Starburst bested Super P four games to two.

The competing teams, all residing in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, battled for a Splatoon-themed prize packs:
Each member of the Grand Prize winning team will receive a gaming chair, Splatoon 2 North American Open March 2022 Trophy, 10,000 My Nintendo Gold Points, headset, Splatoon 2 Jacket, backpack, and a Nintendo Switch carrying case (ARV $835.00 US each). Each member from the the First Prize winning teams will receive 7,500 My Nintendo Gold Points and a Nintendo Switch carrying case (ARV $95 US each). Each member of the two Second Prize winning teams will receive 5,000 My Nintendo Gold Points and a Nintendo Switch carrying case (ARV $70 US each). Total prize ARV $4,352-$5,440 US.
